Vehicle Description
1980 Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG DOKA
We had a local client call and said he had something unique. When he pulled up....
What we found was perhaps the coolest thing on four wheels, the only 4x4 capable of out-mudding almost anything and a rare example of its kind in the US. This Mercedes-Benz Unimog is two parts truck and one part tractor, used throughout the world for some of the most demanding and unique jobs in some of the worst places. This particular one started its life as a Firetruck and has evolved into a pretty cool collector here in the states. With legendary Mercedes-Benz build quality, grossly over-built mechanicals, and a function-over-form look that's completely industrial and totally cool, there's simply nothing else like it on the planet. I cant begin to tell you the smile that came to my face when I drove this machine! This Doka was born original red and is now white with a flat bed that has ramps but we do have the original bed, 2 complete sets of wheels and a full size spare for the Continental radials All Terrain wheels! We also have an original Warn 14,500 hydraulic wench with a 164ft cable and ALL documents for the OG winch! The bonus parts that come with this machine will add up to well over 110k with the Unimog!
In short, this Unimog is the ultimate do-anything truck. Once you look at the incredible hardware under this Mercedes, you'll never look at off-roading the same way again. All four doors fit well and it's obvious that every single component on the truck was built for maximum serviceability and ease of use. The hood lifts off for easy access to the diesel powerplant underneath, there are running boards and grab handles for jumping in this machine, and there's nothing on this truck that wasn't designed for a purpose. The snorkel air cleaner allows the Unimog to slog through water more than three feet deep! You can see the brilliant Mercedes engineers at work in every single component, as nothing is merely "adequate" for its job. If you're already familiar with Unimogs, you know what I'm talking about, and if you're unfamiliar with these amazing machines as I was when this Mog showed up, trust me...... it's even cooler than you think it is. Experts will be relieved to see how solid and complete this one is. The doors themselves don't have any structural rust or damage and the cab is solid. It does have some orginal red showing here and there but this is NOT a beat-up truck.
The heart of the Unimog is a Mercedes-Benz 5.7-liter turbo diesel (125hp factory ordered engine.... higher that the 110 base), whose specs seem rather modest on paper until you actually drive the thing. With almost 400 pounds of torque, it will crawl through virtually anything, particularly when combined with the versatile driveline. The trans is a 4spd... 4 high, 4 low and 4 in reverse. It has been regularly and properly serviced by an enthusiast that has done his homework and everything works as it should. The ignition switch is a bit touchy but we do have a new one! There is a cut off switch under the driver door that now kills power to the truck. The six-cylinder diesel starts quickly and easily thanks to two new 12-volt batteries and drives surprisingly well with power steering and 4-wheel disc brakes to keep things under control. For a giant 4x4, it rides pretty nicely on pavement and bounds over obstacles like train tracks and potholes like they're not even there. In a Unimog, and you can shift on the fly between 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive, and locking differentials front, center, and rear can be engaged on the roll to get you out of the truly hairy stuff. The axles are called "portal axles" which use reduction gears in the hubs to raise the centerline of the axle and increase ground clearance. It will cruise at 45-60 MPH without complaint thanks to the A10 Very Fast Axle Ratio. This Unimog will get you anywhere on the planet. You will also find a gooseneck Hitch on the bed!! It has also been fitted with a brand new set of 365/80/20 Continental radials with less than 1000 miles on them, and if you're familiar with tires, you know these retail for more than $1400 each. Yes, EACH.
I have been told this late-production 416 DOKA is the holy grail of Unimogs, in 100% functional condition. if you just want a ONE OF A KIND collector or like to get out and do some off roading this truck is what you have been looking for! It is in turn-key condition ready to be enjoyed.
We have done our best to do this justice in presenting all we know about it. We do have the data card and a lot of info on the truck. If you would like that emailed to you we can do that!
